Flooding in Monte Vista affects Radio Stations

Due to substantial rains in Monte Vista, flooding has occurred up to a foot of water on Highway 285 (currently closed from Monte Vista to County Road 5N – see video below) and has knocked out our radio station equipment that supports KSLV, KYDN and KBGV stations.

Our building is not easily accessible as there are several feet of water reaching the access door. (see more pics below)

At this time, we are unsure when we will be back on air. We will post more as we know more.

FROM THE CITY OF MONTE VISTA:

The City of Monte Vista urges all residents and travelers to use extreme caution due to flooding and hazardous road conditions throughout the San Luis Valley. Road closures are affecting areas in Monte Vista, Del Norte, and South Fork.

Stay away from floodwaters, rivers, streams, and bridges. Rising water and strong currents can be extremely dangerous. Do not approach bridges to watch or photograph flooding.

Never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Please avoid affected areas unless travel is absolutely necessary. Obey all road closures and emergency personnel, and check local updates before traveling.

Your safety is our priority.

This public safety message is brought to you by the
City of Monte Vista.

Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe.
