Every day this week at 8:30 AM, 96.5 The Fox will air a five part series on the effort to recall District Attorney Alonzo Payne. As the signs continue to pop up around the valley and petitions show up at the Cinco De Mayo Festival in Monte Vista and various businesses and municipalities, what has happened to get us to this point?
On Monday we spoke to Lani Welch, a victim of domestic violence who details her dealings with the district attorney and talks about the Recall Payne Facebook page she started with her mother. Lani was one of the original people to start the recall effort. Hear the interview with Lani from Monday below.
On Tuesday Lani was back with her mother Terry Hammond. Terry is the former Chairman of the Republican Party in Alamosa and together with Lani created the Recall Payne Facebook Page. She’s also created the Recall Payne signs and is managing the recall petitions. Terry and Lani answer questions about whether or not they felt politics played any part of the way they were treated by D.A. Payne, whether or not politics has played a role in recalling him and how the recall effort is being funded. Hear from Lani who in the valley is eligible to sign a petition and why that’s an important distinction. As of Monday night there were over 3000 signatures collected. Their goal is to collect over 6000 by May 23rd. Click here for a list places in the Valley where can sign a petition. Hear the interview from Tuesday below.
Also on Tuesday we interviewed a petition signer who attended “Coffee With the Chief” in Center and got her thoughts on why it was important to her to attend the meeting and sign the petition. Hear it below.
On Wednesday at 8:30, we heard Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman’s thoughts on how we got here and why he thinks D.A. Payne is making a mockery of the judicial system! The interview with the Mayor is posted below.
Martha Lock is a member of the Monte Vista City Counsel and talks about their decision to unanimously sign a letter in support of recalling Alonzo Payne.
Carol Riggenbach is running for Colorado House of Representatives District 62 as a Republican. Right next to the sign in Rain Brews asking for your vote is a Recall Payne sign. Carol explains why she’s running and why running on a platform to Recall Alonzo Payne is the right thing to do.
