3 Valley Teams Play for State Championships

If you live in the San Luis Valley, tonight could be a special night! If you live in Conejos County, there might never be another night like tonight… ever!

Three San Luis Valley teams will play for state basketball championships tonight. The first game of the night will be in 3A and feature the Centuari Falcon boys, a #5 seed who will play the 3rd seeded Aspen Skiers. Centauri knocked off #1 St. Mary’s 63-51 and Aspen beat Sterling 49-44. The game will tip at 6:00pm and can be heard on 96.5 The Fox. Rion Eagan will handle the play by play.

The second game of the night will be in 2A and has a 7:00pm tip off. The Sanford Girls are the #1 seed and are coming off a 42-31 victory over the #4 Rye Thunderbolts. They will face the Holyoke Dragons who beat #3 Limon 45-34. Sanford is 25-1 and Holyoke is 24-1. The game can be heard on 95.3 KYDN. Brian Stevenson and Anthony Garcia will have the play by play call.

The final game of the night featuring a valley team is a battle of the Indians. The 3rd seeded Sanford Indian boys beat the #2 Limon Badgers last night 44-40. The top seed Yuma Indians knocked off #4 Denver Christian 59-49. The two will battle tonight for the state championship. The game tips at 8:30 and can be heard on 95.3 KYDN with Brian Stevenson and Anthony Garcia.

Last night the Sierra Grande Panthers lost their first game of the season in the state semi finals to the McClave Cardinals 53-35. Sierra Grande will play for 3rd place today at 1pm against Granada.

If all three valley teams pull off wins tonight, it will truly be a historic night for the valley, not to mention Conejos County.
